Patient Partners, a segment on the Center for Patient Partnerships for the show Forward Motion, debuted on the Big Ten Network this week. It centers on the story of Elaine Pelley and Ben Shoemaker, whose son Ryan was denied coverage for much needed habilitative therapy services due to an administrative change in the State of Wisconsin’s insurance plan. After partnering with CPP’s Meg Gaines and advocating together for coverage of these services to be reinstated, the Group Insurance Board approved the addition of coverage for habilitative services for families across the state at the beginning of this year. This video tells their story, along with showcasing the exponential value of education in advocating not only for individuals, but also in changing the systems that impact patients across the state—and the country.
We’re grateful to the show’s producers, staff, and the Big Ten Network for helping to share the work we’re doing!
