Jerry worked for 36 years as an accountant, then retired early to care for his wife, Jean, who was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. The couple was about to exhaust their COBRA extension of health insurance before becoming eligible for Medicare.
Using the Pathways to Empowerment resource guide, Jerry researched their options to ensure continuity of coverage. It turned out that Jerry was eligible for insurance through his professional association. Since he had maintained his coverage, he did not have any pre-existing condition waiting period. While exploring the site, Jerry also realized the importance of support and found a support group for caregivers of loved ones with Alzheimer’s in his area.
